INFERTILITY IN MALE AND FEMALE            AND THEIR AFFACTING FACTORS  

Infertility isn’t always a women’s problem. Both male and female can have issues that cause infertility. Around 33% of infertility cases are brought about by female’ issues. Another one third issues are because of the man. Different cases are brought about by a mixture o f both male and female issues or by obscure issues.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN CAUSES THAT AFFECTS THE FERTILITY IN BOTH MALE AND FEMALE

There are many different causes both in male and female due to which they are not able to have a child.

INFERTILITY IN FEMALES MAY OCCUR WHEN

  •  A fertilized egg or embryo does not survive once it attaches to the walls of uterus.
  • The fertilized egg does not attach to the walls of uterus.
  • The egg does not move from the ovaries to the uterus.
  • The ovaries are not functioning properly to produce an egg.
  • Any physical problem with uterus.

INFERTILITY IN MALE MAY OCCUR DUE TO

  • Decreased sperm count.
  • Any blockage that prevents the sperm from releasing.
  • Abnormal sperms.
  • Some time there is some genetic defects in male reproductive track that affects the efficiency of sperms and they are not able to being fertile.
  • Vericocele (it is a medical term which means dilated veins in testes).This heats the testicles that affects the number and the shape of sperms.

 

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FACTORS THAT AFFECTS THE FERTILITY IN MALE AND FEMALE

IN FEMALES:

Factors that affects in females are divided in two categories as

  • Cervical or uterine factor
  • Tubal  factor
  • Ovarian factors
  • Others

CERVICAL FACTORS

Cervical factor infertility can be caused by stenosis or any abnormality of the mucus sperm interaction. The uterine cervix plays a vital role in transportation and capacitation of sperms after intercourse. Cervical factors accounts for 5-10% of infertility. Cervical mucus production and characteristics change according to estrogen concentration during the late follicular phase.

Cervical stenosis can cause infertility by blocking the passage of sperm from cervix to uterine cavity. Cervical stenosis can be congenital or acquired by any pervious surgical procedure or infection.

UTRINE FACTOR

Uterus is the final destination of embryo and place where the fetus develops until delivery. Any abnormality in uterine cavity may b congenital or acquired which affects both endometrium and myometrium and are responsible for 2-5%of infertility cases.

TUBAL FACTOR

Abnormality or damage of fallopian tubes may interfere in fertility and is responsible for abnormal implantation that is ectopic pregnancy. Some peritoneal factors may also cause infertility such as endometriosis, Pelvic inflammatory diseases, and polycystic ovaries.

ADVANCE AGE

Advance age also play a major role in female infertility.

IN MALES:

In males the factors that affect male fertility are divided into 3 categories.

  • Pretesticular
  • Testicular
  • Post testicular

PRETESTICULAR

In pretesticular factors that affecting may congenital or acquired diseases of hypothalamus, pituitary or peripheral organs that alter the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.

TESTICULAR FACTORS

Testicular factors may be genetic or non genetic in nature.Non genetic factors may include heat, radiation, infection.trauma or vericocele.

POSTTESTICULAR FACOTRS

Post testicular factors are those which are not allow the normal transport of sperm through the ductal system. Congenital absence of Vas deferens in male is seen with cystic fibrosis.

FACTORS AFFECTING BOTH SEXES

There are some common factors that affecting both male and female.

  • Advance age
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol  consumption
  • Inadequate diet associated with extreme weight loss or gain
